The work on the Balidan Stambh installed in Pratap Park in Srinagar city of Jammu and Kashmir has been completed. It will be opened to the public for the Independence Day celebrations on August 15. Owais Ahmad said that this is a great achievement and the result of hard work of all the workers and team of Srinagar Smart City. He said, “Balidan Stambh is a symbol of the sacrifice of those who laid down their lives for the country, especially in Jammu and Kashmir.
He invited everyone to visit Balidan Stambh and experience the place which symbolizes those who sacrificed their lives in the defense of the nation. Especially in Jammu and Kashmir, those who have lost their lives for the country, so that tribute can be paid to them.
The names of 4877 martyrs are inscribed on 52 pillars about 40-50 meters high across the country. Some pillars are dedicated to 543 soldiers martyred in the Kargil war. Of these, 71 martyrs were from different districts of Jammu and Kashmir. This Balidan Stambh is located in Lal Chowk in the middle of Srinagar. An expenditure of about Rs 5 crore was sanctioned for this Yagya Stambh of Srinagar, which according to its contractor has been spent. Just a few more decorative items need to be added. It is worth noting that the foundation stone of this Yagya Stambh was laid in Pratap Park in Srinagar by Home Minister Amit Shah in June last year and its construction was completed as per the deadline.
