What is Shaurya Chakra?

The Shaurya Chakra was introduced on 4 January 1952 as Ashoka Chakra Series-III. It was later renamed as Shaurya Chakra on 27 January 1967. The Shaurya Chakra is awarded to officers of all ranks of the Army, Navy and Air Force, any reserve force, territorial army and any other duly constituted force. The Shaurya Chakra consists of a medal and a monetary allowance of Rs 1500.

What is the Air Force Medal?

The Air Force Medal was instituted on 26 January 1960. The award is given to airmen for their bravery and devotion to service or duty. It consists of a medal, ribbon and bar along with a financial allowance of Rs 500.

The Air Force Medal is awarded to officers and airmen of the Regular Air Force and officers and airmen of the Auxiliary Air Force, Air Defence Reserve and Regular Reserve. The medal is also awarded to military officers serving as pilots in the Aviation Corporation.
