Indefinite hunger strike to be held in Araud Panchayat from November 15

Panches, including the Deputy Sarpanch of Gram Panchayat Araud of Magarlod block of Dhamtari district, have warned of going on an indefinite hunger strike on November 15 in protest against the Sarpanch, Secretary and District Panchayat investigator. Deputy Sarpanch and Panches had given a written application on November 8 to the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister, Collector, District Panchayat Sub-Divisional Revenue Officer Kurud, District Panchayat and Kurud MLA to go on a hunger strike if no action was taken, which was 15 days. Gram Panchayat Araud Deputy Sarpanch Falesh Kumar Sahu, Panch Pekhan Sahu, Mahendra Sahu, Nohar Sahu, Rajkumari Sahu, Sharda Bai, Vatsala Sahu have given a written application alleging that the Sarpanch and Secretary have disregarded the post of Panchayat Panches and made a fake proposal. Has been withdrawn. In the Panchayat meeting organized for the development and construction works of the Panchayat, the meeting was adjourned due to disputes with the Panchayats. Again, he did not inform the Panches including the Deputy Sarpanch about the upcoming Panchayat meeting. Apart from the agendas taken in the first meeting of the Panchayat, other agendas have been included in the adjourned meeting and the amount has been withdrawn by forging the signatures of the Panchas. Under the Panchayat Raj Act, cooperation of all the Panches in the operation of the Gram Panchayat is mandatory. There is an allegation of violating the fundamental rights of the Panchas by holding meetings in the Gram Panchayat without the presence and cooperation of the Panchas for the full four years from 2021 to 2024 by citing the postponed meeting. On June 12, 2024, on the written application, the investigation team of District Panchayat Office included SDO of RES, Taxation Officer, Technical Sub Engineer. The first inquiry was held on 12th August as the documents were incomplete and the Sarpanch and Secretary were given one week’s time and the second inquiry was held on 10th September. In case of dispute between the plaintiff and the defendant, the investigation process is still postponed. Deputy Sarpanch and Panches told that if appropriate action is not taken against the Sarpanch and Secretary within the stipulated time limit, they have warned the government and administration to sit in indefinite hunger strike from November 15.

The investigation officer of the complaint is in the process of investigation. SDO RES Sanjay Chandrakar said that in compliance with the orders of the Chief Executive Officer, District Panchayat Magarlod, the investigation is in the process in front of the Sarpanch, Secretary and the complainant in Gram Panchayat Araud. In the first day of investigation, time was given because the documents were incomplete and during the second day of investigation, in case of dispute between the Sarpanch party and the complaining party, the investigation process was postponed and written information was presented to the Chief Executive Officer.
