To live long it is important that you remain healthy. The way to do this is very simple – healthy eating and physical activity. Although physical exercise can be done on the go, most people are not able to choose the right diet. Although you don't need to eat anything special to live longer, it is important to choose the right nutrients in the right amounts.

A new study by Mark Tatar of Brown University It turns out that our diet has an impact on aging. This study was based on fruit flies and studied a hormone that is produced in the intestines of fruit flies. The name of this hormone is Neuropeptide F, which helps in insulin production and belongs to the incretins family.

Objectives of study

The main objective of this study was to find out what effect neuropeptide F has on the lifespan of fruit flies. The researchers found that when the levels of this hormone were altered, the lifespan of the fruit flies improved. In humans, a similar hormone, glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1), also regulates insulin production.

The relationship between gut hormones and aging

The study found that when fruit flies eat protein-rich food, neuropeptide F is released into the blood. This hormone then travels to the brain and increases the production of hormones like insulin, as well as triggering the secretion of 'teenage hormone'. Juvenile hormone plays an important role in controlling aging. This led to the conclusion that protein-rich diet is directly related to the aging process.

Potential benefits to humans

Although this study was based on fruit flies, researchers have also identified incretin hormones like GLP-1 in humans, which help regulate insulin production. This makes it clear that by changing gut hormones we can improve human life span. Along with this, it can also help in reducing the negative effects of unhealthy diet.

Include these protein rich foods in your diet

To increase the amount of protein in the diet, you can consume meat, eggs, chicken, fish, milk, curd, cheese, soybean, lentils, kidney beans, gram, beans, legumes, nuts and seeds, fruits like guava.
