Lucknow, March 29 (HS). Mafia don Mukhtar Ansari, gang leader of Inter-district Gang (IS-191), died during treatment at the Medical College of Banda on Thursday night. Doctors are citing heart attack as the cause of death. Here, the police is planning to conduct post-mortem of the body at night itself and take the body to his native village Ghazipur. Security arrangements have been increased in the entire state.
Talking about the criminal record of Mukhtar Ansari, there are about 65 criminal cases registered in many districts of New Delhi, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh. Out of these 65 cases, 21 prosecutions are pending in various courts. Due to the prosecution of accused Mukhtar's cases under Operation Conviction, the court has sentenced him in eight cases within the last one year and six months.
From the year 2020, 161 cases were registered at the police headquarters level, identifying 297 members and associates of Mukhtar Ansari gang. Action was taken against 175 licensed arms holders. Five mafia and accomplices belonging to the gang were killed in a police encounter. By taking action against 164 accused under the Gangster Act and under the National Security Act against six accused, property worth more than Rs 608 crore has been seized or destroyed. Mafia's illegal businesses worth more than Rs 215 crore were also closed.
