Madrid, 10 December (HS). Teams from the fourth level (RFEF II) Barbastro and Deportivo Minero will play at home against FC Barcelona and Real Madrid in the third round of the Copa del Rey, while the cup winner will play against Athletic Club Bilbao Logroñés.
In the third round draw held in Madrid on Monday, the four teams that played in the Spanish Supercup in early January entered the draw for the first time, with a seeding system ensuring they were drawn alongside the lowest-ranked teams remaining in the tournament. Play, although all smaller teams have eliminated top level rivals in the second round.
Deportivo Minero’s clash with Real Madrid will be played in Cartagena in the south-east of Spain and is a reward for Minero knocking out top team Deportivo Alaves in the second round after a penalty shootout.
Barbastro defeated Espanyol in the second round and will now face FC Barcelona for the second consecutive season, having won 3–2 last year with goals from Fermín López, Raphinha and Robert Lewandowski.
Other interesting fixtures in the third round are the Andalusia derby between second division top-tier Almería and Sevilla, while Atletico Madrid visit third-tier Marseille and second division leaders Racing de Santander play at home to Celta Vigo.
