Kolkata, June 24 (HS). The 20th IG BSF-Area Commander BGB level border coordination conference organized by BSF South Bengal Frontier between Border Security Force (BSF) and Border Guards Bangladesh concluded in Kolkata. The three-day conference was aimed at enhancing bilateral cooperation and coordination on important border security issues. The conference was attended by Inspector General of BSF from South Bengal Frontier, North Bengal Frontier and Guwahati Frontier and BGB regional commanders from Jessore and Rangpur area, which emphasized the commitment of both countries to jointly tackle cross-border crimes and promote mutual understanding.
The Joint Discussion Record (JRD) was signed by both heads of delegations of Border Security Forces of India and Bangladesh. The discussions held in the conference covered important issues like increasing attacks on BSF personnel and Indian citizens by Bangladeshi miscreants, attempts to snatch weapons from security forces, illegal border crossing by Bangladeshi nationals and various other crimes affecting border stability. Realising the gravity of all these issues, BSF and BGB arrived at a consensus on several key measures to effectively tackle border crimes.
The two agencies agreed to intensify efforts to prevent smuggling of contraband items including wildlife, counterfeit currency, narcotics and other prohibited substances across the border. Mutual commitment was expressed to take prompt action against individuals involved in cross-border criminal activities, including those responsible for kidnapping of Indian nationals and farmers.
Measures to prevent incidents of cutting of border fences and theft of crops of Indian farmers by Bangladeshi smugglers were discussed. Strategies were devised to protect border pillars from tampering.
The conference also emphasised the importance of high-level border management, including joint patrolling to identify vulnerable areas and sharing of real-time intelligence to enhance operational efficiency. Both BSF and BGB reiterated their commitment to enhance friendship and cooperation between India and Bangladesh through continued dialogue and collaborative efforts.
On this occasion, BSF South Frontier IG Ayush Mani Tiwari expressed hope about the outcome of the conference and said that the discussions have strengthened our resolve to jointly address the security challenges along the India-Bangladesh border. This partnership reflects the strong bond between our countries and our shared commitment to peace and security.
