In the by-election of Vav assembly seat, Congress nominated Gulab Singh and BJP nominated Swaroopji Thakor.

Ahmedabad, 25 October (Hindustan Reporter). Congress declared its candidate for the by-election of Vav Assembly seat in Gujarat on Friday, the last day of filing nominations. Congress has given ticket to Gulab Singh Rajput on this Thakor dominated seat. Whereas BJP has made Swaroopji Thakor the party candidate.

Gulab Singh had won the by-election on Tharad assembly seat in the year 2019 on Congress ticket. In the state assembly elections held in the year 2022, he lost the election from Tharad seat to BJP's Shankarbhai Chaudhary. He has been the state president of Youth Congress. Apart from this, he had worked hard for Geniben Thakor, who would get the only seat for Congress in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. It is believed that Gulab Singh Rajput has received this gift. Gulab Singh has inherited politics. His grandfather Hemabhai Rajput had been an MLA for 20 years when Vav-Tharad assembly seats were together. Whereas, Swaroopji Thakor was a candidate from Vav seat on BJP ticket in the year 2022. Here Congress's Geniben Thakor defeated BJP's Swaroopji Thakor by 15,601 votes. In this election, Geniben Thakor got 1,02,513 votes, while Thakor got 86,912 votes.

Vav assembly seat is Thakor dominated which comes under OBC in Gujarat. Here the number of people of Thakor caste is about 82,852, Chaudhary 49860, Dalit 42850, Rabari 25192, Brahmin 18670, Rajput 18,251, Prajapati 12607, Muslim 7980 and the number of people of other castes is 13138. Vav seat includes some areas of three tehsils Vav, Bhabhar and Suigam of Banaskantha district. Voting on Vav seat will be held on November 13. Congress's Geeni Ben Thakor was successful in winning the Vav seat in the 2022 elections. This seat has become vacant due to his resignation from the membership of the Assembly.
