2,600 people employed as cooks and water carriers in the country's largest paramilitary force CRPF have been promoted for the first time in the 85-year history of the force. Formed in 1939, the CRPF currently has 3,25,000 men and women on duty. Working in a cadre of cooks and water carriers, managing and looking after a network of kitchens, canteens. All of them are employed in the lowest rank cadre of constables. But in an order issued on Wednesday, 1,700 cooks and 900 water carriers were promoted from constable to head constable.
A senior officer said that for the first time in the 85-year history of CRPF, this cadre has been promoted. This cadre has been working since the formation of the force in 1939. In 2016, they were also given the benefit of the Seventh Pay Commission by giving them special cadres like cooks and watermen. This initiative started with a proposal from the CRPF to promote them, after which the Union Home Ministry approved the proposal. The 2,600 employees who have been promoted now were recruited between 1983 and 2004. The remaining personnel of this cadre will also be promoted to the post of head constable soon.

A CAPF official said that these personnel are being kept in the last level cadre of the force. Even after 30-35 years of service, they used to retire in the same cadre. But cooks and watermen are a very important part of any team. These people provide food and nutrition to the army. There are 45 such personnel in every CRPF battalion.
