Lucknow, September 21 (HS). In the capital Lucknow, an uncontrolled Creta car ran over vehicle riders and pedestrians near Rumi Gate under Thakurganj police station on Friday night. After the incident, a crowd of people chased the car for a long distance and beat up the driver after catching him. After a lot of struggle, the police rescued the driver from the clutches of the people angry with the incident and arrested him and started action. At the same time, five injured have been admitted to the hospital.
The uncontrolled car first hit a person near Rumi Gate under Hussainabad Chowki in Thakurganj police station area at 12 midnight, but the driver did not stop the car. After this, the driver increased the speed of the car from there and started running away. During this, he ran over many vehicle riders and pedestrians one after the other and drove the car for a long distance. When people and police chased him, the car collided with a pole in Hussainabad, after which the crowd attacked the car and caught the driver and beat him badly.
The police somehow saved the car driver from the mob and took him to the police station, but the mob vandalised the car. This incident took place near the city's busiest areas, Ghantaghar and Rumi Gate, where there was less crowd at night, otherwise more people could have been hit.
Thakurganj Inspector said that the accused driver Ayushman Upadhyay, a resident of Rajajipuram, has been arrested. Five injured have been admitted to the hospital. The injured include three members of Zubair Ahmed's family. The driver was driving the car in a very drunken state.
