6 lakh tourists visit Australia under various categories
In 2023 alone, 6 lakh visitors under various categories came to Australia, of which 1,24,829 were Indian students alone and till April this year, 1,16,610 students from India have come to study in Australia, of which 73,489 are pursuing higher studies.
2.5 lakh students go to Australia for higher education
In the 18 years from 2005 to 2023, 2.5 lakh students from India came to Australia for higher education. But in the last one and a half years, 2.5 lakh more students have come, so far 5 lakh Indian students have come here. This was said by the new Consul General of the Australian Consulate General in Mumbai, Paul Murphy, in an interview.
A large number of Indian cultural centres in Australia
He said, 'Australia has great respect for the people of India, especially students, because the cultural heritage has been beautifully preserved and integrated into the mainstream. There are so many Indian cultural centres and food shops in Canberra that you will feel like you are back in Chennai, Mumbai, Delhi or Ahmedabad.
A list of recognized universities is also prepared so that students are not mislead
Australia has recently increased student visa fees worldwide, the reason being that with managing such an influx, the best talent is filtered through multiple stages to come to Australia, study and build their career there. To ensure that students are not misled, a list of recognized universities-colleges has also been prepared, which they can follow.
Renowned universities like Wollongong have come to India to select 50 students to allow those Indian students who are not financially viable but are extremely talented to study at top Australian universities while staying in India. Similarly, Deakin University will teach 300 students at GIFT City in Gandhinagar.
Indians living in Australia are happy
It is true that sometimes racial attacks happen in Australia but some also have personal issues and problems, yet the culprits are never released. The rest of the 10 lakh Indians living in Australia are very happy who are contributing to the development of Australia with their culture.
Responding to another question, he said when India is trying to bring the 2036 Olympic Games there, Australia has publicly vocally supported it and if it gets the Olympics, it will provide all the technical support from infrastructure to logistics based on its experience.
He further said, 'I have visited India earlier also, but this time as Consul General I will discuss with the Chief Minister of Gujarat the issue of cooperation in the green economy apart from the Olympics in which I will focus on solar, electric and long-term, high-capacity batteries.'
Australia itself is facing the effects of global warming and greenhouse gases and I will also discuss the techniques we have used to stop the gap in the ozone layer in some places. The whole world needs to wake up to the huge increase in skin cancer due to the depletion of the ozone layer.
