The case of enslaving and holding farm labourers hostage in Italy is becoming serious. The authorities have taken a tough stand in this matter. Recently, two Indian citizens have been arrested for holding 33 Indians hostage and making them work in the fields in the province of Verona. An Indian labourer, Satnam Singh's hand got stuck in a machine and was cut, and instead of admitting him to the hospital, his employer ordered him to be thrown on the road outside his house. He died due to excessive bleeding. After this, the case of holding Indians hostage and making them do black labour came to light. It is known that the issue of slavery in Italy came to the attention of the media after the death of 31-year-old Satnam Singh.

Police have seized more than Rs 43 lakh from the Indian owners

According to the police, both the arrested Indians are the owners of two companies in the agriculture sector. There are no employees in this company. It is alleged that the owners embezzled money by evading taxes. Property worth more than 4,75,000 Euros i.e. about Rs. 43 lakhs has been seized. Both the arrested Indians are being investigated for the crime of enslaving people and exploiting them as laborers.
