Bhawanigarh : In the nearby village Kahangarh of Bhawanigarh sub-division, another poor farmer burdened with debt ended his life by consuming poisonous substance.
Jagseer Singh, unit president of Bharatiya Kisan Union Ekta Ugrahan, said that Mukand Singh (60), son of Major Singh, went to the field on Monday morning and swallowed some poisonous thing. He was immediately admitted to a private hospital for treatment, where he died the next day on Tuesday. Unit President Jagseer Singh said that Major Singh was not married and lived with his younger brother. He told that the deceased farmer was very close and he had only one and a half acre of land. Jagseer Singh told that Major Singh had a government and non-government loan of about Rs. 6 lakhs, he was often troubled due to debt, due to which he ended his life by swallowing some poisonous substance. After the post-mortem, the last rites of farmer Major Singh will be performed. Farmer leaders demanded from the government that all the debts of the deceased farmer should be waived off.
