Kolkata, 29 October (Hindustan Reporter). Registrar of West Bengal Unani State Council, Imtiaz Hussain has been arrested by the police. During his interrogation, it was revealed that he used to sell fake BUMS certificates for money. It is surprising that even before he was arrested in this case, but the police releases him every time. Even the High Court had to intervene for his arrest.
The police of Entali police station, while exposing this alleged scam, have named Imtiaz as the main conspirator, who has been working as the Registrar of Unani Council since 2011. On Tuesday, an officer involved in the investigation, on the condition of anonymity, said that Imtiaz misused his position and gave 'Register of Unani Medical Practitioners' (RUMP) certificates to ineligible persons for huge sums of money. After obtaining this certificate, a person can practice medicine.
Started work as peon, became registrar
Imtiaz started his career as a peon in the council, but was later made the registrar. After becoming Registrar, he took advantage of this position and started selling fake certificates. Imtiaz is accused of selling these certificates to people outside the state also.
Earlier also a hearing regarding this matter was held in Kolkata High Court. Justice T.S. Shivagananam's division bench had directed the state government to take immediate action on this. Despite this, no strict action was taken against Imtiaz and he was re-appointed to the post of Registrar.
However, after the instructions of the High Court, the police started the investigation again and Imtiaz was arrested earlier also, but after a few days he was released on bail. While on bail, Imtiaz again came on the police radar and a search operation started against him on Sunday night. On Monday, police arrested Imtiaz from a house located in Chamru Khansama Lane. On Monday, he was produced in the Sealdah court, from where he was sent to police custody. He was interrogated the whole night, in which many shocking revelations were made. It has also been revealed that he has been in constant touch with many leaders of the ruling party.
