New Delhi, 1 November (Hindustan Reporter). Imran Khawaja has been re-appointed Vice Chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC) for another term. His new tenure will begin from December 1, 2024, the day BCCI Secretary Jay Shah begins his tenure as ICC President.
Khawaja, who was first elected to the ICC Board in 2008, has been the vice-chairman since 2017. During that time, he also held the post of interim president after Shashank Manohar's tenure ended in July 2020. Later that year, Khawaja contested the leadership election for the top post against Greg Barclay, which Barclay won after two rounds of voting.
In July this year, at the ICC Annual General Meeting in Colombo, Khawaja was re-elected as one of the three Associate Member Directors to sit on the ICC Board.
Shah was appointed president unopposed in August this year, replacing Barclay, completing two of his three terms. At 35, Shah is the youngest person to become ICC chief and also the fifth Indian to hold the post after Jagmohan Dalmiya, Sharad Pawar, N Srinivasan and Manohar.
The ICC also voted on a recommendation to change the term limits of the Chairman and Board Directors. Instead of a maximum of three terms of two years each, the tenure will now be a maximum of two terms of three years each.
