Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his official post highlighted that during this high-level conversation, both the friendly countries have expressed complete agreement to further accelerate mutual cooperation in key and emerging areas such as trade, foreign investment, defense cooperation, clean energy, advanced technology, and talent mobility. In the last few months, cooperation between India and Germany in the field of industrial, technological and innovation is taking a completely new direction. In this series, last month the news of ‘Submarine Deal’, one of the biggest defense deals in history between India and Germany, had made a lot of headlines at the international level. According to a report by news agency PTI, this strategic agreement between India and Germany is a huge amount of about 8 billion euros i.e. more than Rs 90,000 crore in Indian currency. Under this ambitious defense deal, a total of 6 next generation conventional submarines equipped with state-of-the-art technology are to be built for the Indian Navy, which will strengthen India’s indigenous defense production capabilities. The special thing is that these state-of-the-art submarines will not be manufactured at any foreign port, but within India under the ‘Make in India’ and ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ campaign. To implement this mega project, the country’s prestigious public defense construction company Mumbai-based Mazgaon Dock Limited (MDL) and Germany’s world famous defense company ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems (TKMS) are working together.
With the aim of strengthening the industrial partnership between the two countries at the grassroots level, a grand event ‘Industry Dialogue 2026’ was organized by the Indo-German Chamber of Commerce (IGCC) in July 2026. This high-level forum discussed in detail the ways to intensify mutual cooperation between the two countries in future emerging areas such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Green Hydrogen, semiconductor manufacturing, and cutting-edge Research and Development (R&D). Germany currently remains India’s largest and most trusted trading partner within continental Europe, with India’s annual trade volume of over US$50 billion. This strong economic base is proof that Germany is one of India’s most strategic and essential global partners in terms of business and commercial sector. India and Germany are continuously creating new dimensions on the strategic, economic, technological and diplomatic fronts through their unbreakable bilateral partnership.
