Cyclone 'Gami' is having a widespread effect in the Philippines. Heavy to very heavy rains have caused flood-like conditions in the Philippines capital Manila and surrounding cities. In view of the situation, the authorities have announced the closure of schools and offices. Many flights have been cancelled at the airport.
Apart from this, a state of disaster has been declared in Manila due to the natural disaster. Cyclone 'Gami' is moving rapidly towards Taiwan. It has not reached the Philippines but it has intensified the monsoon rains. It has been raining continuously in many parts of the Philippines for the last few days. Due to which the incidents of landslides have increased.
A total of 12 people have died so far
The National Disaster Agency in the Philippines has locally named Cyclone Gaemi as 'Karina'. At least 12 people have died due to the cyclone. And more than six lakh people have been displaced. In some areas, the water has reached shoulder level. The Philippine Coast Guard said that 260 tourists and 16 ships are stranded at the ports. While 114 flights from Manila have been canceled. Apart from this, the currency market also remained closed.
People were rescued
A statement issued by the President after the storm said officials have been ordered to prepare supplies and provide assistance to citizens isolated by the natural disaster. In the riverside city of Marikina, emergency department personnel waded through waist-deep water and used rubber boats to rescue people. Some people have been given shelter in the Bahajas due to the situation.
Everything was destroyed
A woman who took refuge in the church said that the flood water has reached the second floor of our house. So all the household items, furniture, grocery items in our house got soaked and destroyed. In social media posts, many vehicles are seen submerged in water. Some vehicles can be seen stuck in the water filled on the roads.
