Immediately fix bent poles, dilapidated lines and electrical wires touching residential houses: A.K. Sharma

Lucknow, 09 November (HS). Uttar Pradesh's Urban Development and Energy Minister A.K. Sharma instructed all the electrical workers to immediately correct the abnormal conditions of dilapidated and bent poles, loose and dilapidated lines and open electrical wires touching residential houses in their area. He said that such electricity system leads to electrical accidents, in which most of the accidents range from loss of life, loss of animals to fire. Electrical accidents are not a natural disaster, they are happening due to glitches in our system, which should be rectified immediately. For this, officers should regularly visit their areas and do intensive monitoring of the electricity system.

He launched intensive campaigns against electricity theft by all the discoms. To stop electricity theft, strict action should also be taken against those who steal electricity. In areas where organized theft is taking place, first of all effective action should be taken to stop electricity theft. In such a situation, no consumer should be harassed unnecessarily, efforts should be made to stop theft by identifying the areas from where complaints of electricity theft are received. There are still a large number of areas where there are more than 60 percent line losses. To reduce this, the Managing Directors of all Discoms themselves should make efforts to stop electricity theft by identifying such areas and also intensify efforts at the vigilance and departmental levels. Energy Minister A.K. Sharma was reviewing the electrical works at Shakti Bhawan on Saturday. He said that the Electricity Department was neither able to compensate for its revenue loss nor was able to recover the revenue as per the set target. He asked electricity defaulters to work out a concrete strategy to recover electricity bills. The prescribed standards should be properly followed in providing electricity connection.

Chairman UPPCL Dr Ashish Kumar Goyal, Managing Director Pankaj Kumar, Managing Directors of all Discoms and other senior officials of the headquarters were present in the review meeting.
