Kanpur, March 05 (HS). IIT Kanpur's Research Park has completed five years today and this is an important achievement for us. In a short span of time, we have achieved considerable success in bringing research-focused companies to Kanpur, including some big names like Laurus Labs, and have created meaningful engagement with the academic community to accelerate the pace of innovation and drive tangible socio-economic impact.
This platform can play an important role in furthering the objectives of the state government and the country in building a strong self-reliant economy. IIT Director Prof. S Ganesh said these things on Tuesday.
Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur Research and Technology Park has achieved a significant milestone in completing five years of fostering academia-industry collaboration to develop cutting-edge innovation and knowledge-based technologies. Technopark @IITK has leveraged the core competencies and strengths of IIT Kanpur to emerge as a leading research and development center across all sectors.
The Director informed that in March 2019, a non-profit section eight company was started as Technopark@IITK. This is a pioneer initiative of IIT Kanpur, which aims to promote industry-IIT Kanpur R&D collaboration by inviting research-driven industries to work together with the academic community and develop cutting-edge technologies in line with national priorities.
Technopark@IITK is ready to move into its own new state-of-the-art building, which will be inaugurated soon. Located within the IIT Kanpur campus, the facility is spread over two and a half lakh square feet of space (2.5 lakh sq ft) with modern amenities such as recreational facilities, cafeteria, meeting and conference rooms and training rooms. With over 65,000 square feet of space already taken up, the new facility will see the presence of many leading companies such as Laurus Labs Limited, Merrill Diagnostics, TVM Signaling and Transportation Systems, GeoClimate Risk Solutions, Q-Line Biotech, among others. Hyderabad-based leading pharma and biotechnology company Laurus Labs Limited has licensed technology from IIT Kanpur in the gene therapy domain and is now setting up its cGMP vector manufacturing facility within Technopark@IITK.
Speaking on the occasion, Professor Amarendra Kumar Singh, in-charge of Technopark@IITK, said that its objective is to promote synergy between industry and IIT Kanpur in a holistic manner and to accelerate the transition of products and technologies from laboratory level to industry. This strengthens their commitment to the national objective of building a self-reliant and developed India, as envisioned by the 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' and 'Vikasit Bharat' initiatives.
