IIT Delhi has been ranked among the top 150 universities in the world while US' Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) remained the world's best university for the 13th time. IIT Bombay climbed 31 spots to 118th position from 149th last year while IIT Delhi remained at 150th position in the QS World University Rankings released on Wednesday. In the rankings published by London-based higher education analyst Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), Delhi University was ranked 44th in the world in the 'employment outcomes' category on account of the employability of its graduates.
With 46 universities in this ranking, the Indian higher education system is ranked seventh globally and third in Asia. China ranks first in Asia with 71 universities and Japan ranks second with 49 universities. Delhi University was ranked 328th while Anna University was ranked 383rd. A senior QS official said that India's employment outcome score is 10 points lower than the global average of 23.8, indicating the need to reduce the gap between job requirements and graduates' skills and create more opportunities for new graduates. Additionally, India's sustainability score is also about 10 points lower than the global average and indicates the need to prioritise and strengthen sustainability initiatives in the higher education system.
