• Being calcitonic, improves bone health.
• Increases heart rate and helps maintain proper blood pressure.
Type
There are two types of thyroid disease.
• Hypothyroidism.
• Hyperthyroidism.
Hypothyroidism
More people are affected by the hypothyroidism type of this disease. In this, the thyroid gland produces less thyroxine hormone. Hypothyroidism is a condition in which the body does not produce enough thyroxine hormone. People suffering from this have many health related changes.
symptoms
People suffering from hypothyroidism may experience problems like fatigue, hair loss, weight gain, intolerance to cold, heart disease, and infertility.
The Reason
Of course there are many reasons for this, but mainly this disease (hypothyroidism) is caused by consuming low amounts of iodine in the diet for a long time. That is, due to lack of iodine, the thyroid gland produces less of a hormone called thyroxine.
Diet restraint
People who have hypothyroidism type of thyroid disease should avoid eating butter, mayonnaise, fatty meats, sugary foods, fried, processed and gluten-containing foods. A good diet and good lifestyle can affect the functioning of the thyroid gland. Many studies show that a good diet provides good health for thyroid sufferers.
Eat
• Colourful fruits and vegetables should be included, such as apples, bananas, peaches, pears, mangoes, oranges, kiwis, pineapples, strawberries, cranberries, broccoli, carrots, beetroot, potatoes, capsicum, spinach, mushrooms and green leafy vegetables.
• Fiber and nutrient-rich whole grains, pasta, rice should be included. These will help reduce constipation, a common problem of hypothyroidism.
• For good protein, eggs, tofu, beans, fish, milk, cheese, yogurt should be included in the diet.
• Add healthy fats like walnuts, coconut, olive oil.
• Include iodized salt in the diet.
hyperthyroidism
In this, the thyroid gland produces more thyroxine hormone than the physical requirement. Excessive amount of thyroxine hormone is also harmful for health, due to which the body can suffer from many symptoms.
symptoms
Symptoms include sudden weight loss, increased appetite, tension, irritability, mood swings, sleep disturbances, hot flashes, sweating, rapid heart rate, increased blood pressure, fatigue, muscle weakness, thinning skin, enlargement of the thyroid gland and swelling in the front of the neck (which can become cancerous if left untreated
The Reason
Undoubtedly, there are many other causes as well but mainly hyperthyroidism is caused by prolonged intake of excess iodine and iodine-rich foods or due to disorders of the thyroid gland.
Diet restraint
Foods high in iodine, such as iodised salt, fish, shellfish, milk products, egg yolks, iodised packaged and baked foods, should be avoided.
Eat
Patients should consume foods with less iodine. This will reduce the hormone. Eating foods rich in more iodine can increase the problem of hyperthyroidism. According to the NIH, one teaspoon of iodized salt contains 304 micrograms of iodine. The daily requirement of iodine is 150 micrograms or .15 milligrams. This means that food with less iodine should be taken very little. Consumption of non-iodized salt, coffee or tea without milk, egg whites, unsalted nuts, homemade unsalted bread, oats, rice, beans, potatoes, fruits, juices, vegetables, soy and almond milk is beneficial. Turmeric, green chili, black pepper are anti-inflammatory, which balances thyroid function. It is also good to consume them. This can also weaken the bones. Therefore, food rich in calcium and vitamin-D should be included.
