If you are planning to go to the national capital Delhi on Saturday, October 10 or for any important work within the capital, then this news is very important for you. Delhi Traffic Police has issued a detailed and strict traffic advisory in view of the law and order situation and proposed major protests on October 10. According to the police, massive traffic diversion and intensive checking of vehicles will be implemented in New Delhi, Central Delhi and all interstate borders from 6:00 am on Saturday. In view of the call for protests and meetings proposed by various political and social organizations at Jantar Mantar, security arrangements have been completely tightened. Security agencies have made it clear that prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Indian Civil Security Code (BNSS) are in force in New Delhi district and no unauthorized protest has been allowed. In such a situation, if you are leaving for New Delhi Railway Station, Old Delhi Railway Station, Kashmiri Gate or Sarai Kale Khan Bus Stand or IGI Airport, then start your journey with at least two to three hours extra time in hand than the normal time.
According to the official advisory issued by Delhi Traffic Police, vehicular movement will be controlled or diverted at around 30 major intersections, roundabouts and approach roads in central Delhi and Lutyens Zone from 6:00 am on Saturday. Major affected routes include:
-
Connaught Place and Sansad Marg area: Windsor Place, Janpath-Tolstoy Marg Crossing, Ashok Road, Jantar-Mantar Road, Sansad Marg-Jai Singh Road Crossing, Connaught Place Outer Circle (Barakhamba Road and Sansad Marg T-Point), Patel Chowk Roundabout and Gol Dak Khana.
-
Central and North Delhi Links: Minto Road, Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Marg, Guru Nanak Chowk, Chelmsford Road (near New Delhi Railway Station), Mandi House Roundabout, Jhandewalan and Panchkuian Road.
-
Southern and Ring Road areas: Dhaula Kuan flyover, under Moti Bagh flyover, Bhikaji Cama Place, Sardar Patel Marg-Panchsheel Marg crossing, Lodhi Road flyover, Neela Gumbad, Madrasa T-Point and Bhairon Marg-Ring Road crossing.
The traffic police has clarified that in view of the movement of the protesters and the ground situation, barricades may be installed on these roads and only vehicles with valid identity cards or those carrying essential services will be allowed to proceed.
The biggest impact of this advisory can be on passengers taking trains and flights. Anticipating heavy traffic at major stations in Central Delhi, especially on the routes towards New Delhi, Hazrat Nizamuddin and Old Delhi, Northern Railways has also already rescheduled or controlled the operation of many trains. Passengers going to the station from Chelmsford Road, Ajmeri Gate and Paharganj side may have to face diversion at Minto Road and Panchkuian. The traffic police has appealed to the passengers to use the services of Delhi Metro as much as possible instead of private cars, cabs or autos so that they can reach the station or terminal on time without getting stuck in the jam. At the same time, drivers going towards Terminals 1, 2 and 3 of Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI Airport) should use alternative external routes like Outer Ring Road or Delhi-Meerut Expressway and Eastern Peripheral Expressway instead of Dhaula Kuan or Sardar Patel Marg.
Saturday morning may also be full of challenges for daily commuters entering Delhi from Uttar Pradesh and Haryana. Delhi Police has installed multi-layered barricades along with paramilitary forces (CAPF) at Ghazipur, Chilla (Noida), Kalindi Kunj, Badarpur, Singhu, Tikri and Kapashera borders. Due to intensive checking of heavy commercial vehicles and suspicious buses, queues of 2 to 3 kilometers long may form at border points during morning peak hours. People entering Delhi from Ghaziabad, Noida, Greater Noida, Faridabad and Gurugram have been advised to avoid traveling to Central Delhi or travel by metro train only if there is no urgent work. Start your journey early by calling the police helpline numbers 1095 and 011-25844444 or by watching live traffic updates on Delhi Traffic Police’s official Twitter handle @dtptraffic.
