Indian Railways has recently implemented new rules for passengers traveling on waiting tickets. Till now, passengers whose tickets were confirmed, used to travel in RAC Sleeper or AC with waiting tickets. Due to which the passengers whose seats are confirmed have to face problems. These days many videos are going viral on social media regarding heavy crowd on the berths. Keeping this in mind, the Railways has taken such a decision.
Railways made a new rule
Indian Railways has made a new rule to impose heavy fine on those traveling without a confirmed ticket. If a passenger with a waiting ticket travels in a reserved coach, he will be fined Rs 440 and the Train Ticketing Officer (TT) can drop him mid-way. Apart from this, the TT will have the right to send the passenger to the general compartment. Apart from this, if a passenger with a waiting ticket travels in a sleeper coach, he will be fined Rs 250 and will be dropped at the next station.
If the ticket is on the waiting list, can I travel?
According to railway rules, traveling on a waiting list ticket is illegal. However, if you have taken a ticket from the window counter, you can travel in the general compartment on a waiting list ticket. But, passengers who have waiting list tickets online i.e. e-tickets are not allowed to board the train. If your waiting list ticket is online, then after the chart is prepared, IRCTC automatically cancels it and you get a refund. The refund amount goes to your account from which you paid at the time of reservation. It may take 3-4 days for the refund amount to come.
…but seats will have to be shared
If your Tatkal ticket is also in the waiting list and is not confirmed till the day of travel, then you cannot travel on that ticket. In case of Tatkal waiting ticket, the ticket is automatically cancelled by the railways. Apart from this, if your ticket is RAC (Reservation Against Cancellation), it means that you will get a seat in the train, but you will have to share the seat with another passenger. In this case, you can travel.
What are the new rules for waiting tickets?
According to the new rules of Indian Railways, if you have bought a ticket from the window and the ticket remains in the waiting list, then you can cancel it and get a refund. But many passengers board the train to travel instead of cancelling the train. Under the refund policy, the entire money will be refunded on cancellation of your ticket.
Because of this rule
In some months, the railways receive more than 45 percent complaints from passengers, the largest number of which is related to crowding in coaches even after the tickets are confirmed. This is causing great inconvenience to the passengers and the image of the railways is also getting tarnished. In view of these cases, traveling on waiting list tickets has been considered illegal.
