If you experience tingling and numbness in your hands, it may be due to carpal tunnel syndrome. This is a common condition in which there are complaints of tingling and pain in the hands. This condition occurs when blood circulation does not reach the nerves of the hands properly. The wrist starts hurting. Tingling and numbness: Tingling and numbness may occur in the fingers or hands. Usually all the fingers are affected except the little finger. You feel an electric shock in these fingers.

These symptoms often occur when holding a steering wheel, phone, or newspaper, or they may wake you from sleep. Many people shake their hands to relieve their symptoms. Numbness may persist over time.

Weakness: People with carpal tunnel syndrome may experience weakness in the hands and drop things. This can be due to pinching, muscle numbness or weakness, also known as median nerve entrapment.

Carpal tunnel syndrome is caused by pressure on the median nerve. The median nerve passes from the wrist to the hand through a passage known as the carpal tunnel. The median nerve provides sensation to all fingers except the thumb and the palmar part of the little finger. This nerve also provides signals to move the muscles around the base of the thumb.
