According to the Panchang, the Ekam Tithi of Shukla Paksha of Aso month will start on October 3 at 12:19 am and will end the next day on October 4 at 02:58 am. As per Udaya Tithi, Sharadiya Navratri will start from Thursday, October 3, 2024 and the festival will end on Saturday, October 12, 2024.
Essential rules for lighting Akhand Jyot
While lighting the Akhand Jyot during Navratri, chant this mantra, 'Karoti Kalyanam, Aarogyam Dhan Sampadam, Shatru Buddhi Vinashaya, Deepam Jyoti Namostute.' Using Nadchadi for Akhand Jyoti Vat is considered auspicious.
A solid flame lamp should never be placed directly on the ground. This lamp should always be kept on a heap of barley, rice or wheat. Devotees use ghee or oil to light the Akhand Jyoti. Note that if you are lighting the Akhand Jyot with ghee then always keep the lamp on the right side and if you are lighting the Akhand Jyot with oil then the lamp should always be kept on the left side.
Once you have lit the Akhand Jyot, never leave the house empty. Do not lock the house during this period. There is always a need for some member in the house. Always remember that never, even by mistake, use a broken or previously used lamp to light the eternal flame. By cleaning the metal lamp thoroughly you can use it to burn a continuous flame. -After Navratri is over, never extinguish the flame yourself but let the lamp extinguish on its own.
