Sehwag revealed how he was setting with the umpires. Meanwhile, Sehwag also mentioned the match with the umpire, in which the umpire declared him not out. Sehwag said that 'I will set the food that the umpire likes.'
Veeru told a funny story
In a conversation, Virender Sehwag narrated the story of the match where the umpire was beaten with ice cream. Sehwag said that 'There was an umpire, David Shepherd of England. He was very fond of eating ice cream. I used to call him a pregnant man. I was asking him why are you pregnant? He also used to reply like this, I am a very good driver. Once I asked him about tea. So he told me that I do not like tea, but I like ice cream very much. Well, hearing this, I went out for an over and called the caterer to send ice cream to the umpire's room when he went out. If you do not do this, I will tell the President of Punjab and get your contract canceled.'
There was a tea break and the umpire came on the field and said…
Sehwag said that 'When there was a tea break in the test match, I told the umpire to go and enjoy. Then after the break, David Shepherd came to the field and I asked how the tea was? So he said that I did not drink tea but the ice cream was very tasty. Thank you Veeru.' After this the umpire became my fan and we became good friends. After that this friendship worked and once or twice he did not get me out.
Sehwag also told some incidents
Talking further about this, Sehwag said, 'I was out once in the final of the NatWest Trophy but the umpire was David Shepherd and he did not give me out. That's why I say that if you have a friendship or setting with the umpire, then you may get one or two opportunities, which is your job to take advantage of. Sehwag also mentioned the match played in Mohali. Even in that match, Sehwag was not given out by the umpire even once.
