If you don't like India then leave it, otherwise…' Why is Delhi High Court angry with Wikipedia? | News India

Delhi High Court: The Delhi High Court has issued a notice to Wikipedia on the basis of a defamation petition filed by news agency ANI. It said that an earlier order passed by the High Court had directed to disclose the information of the clients who made objectionable edits on ANI's 'Wikipedia page', but it was not complied with.

'If you don't like India, stop working here'

The Delhi High Court has reprimanded Wikipedia, a website that provides detailed information about personalities and events around the world. The court has directed Wikipedia to make changes to the page that provides information about news agency ANI. The bench said, “If you don't like India, then stop working here. We will ask the government to block Wikipedia in India.” On this issue, the High Court issued a defamation notice to Wikipedia and asked why it did not follow the bench's order.

'This is a propaganda tool of the current government.'

News agency ANI has filed a defamation suit against Wikipedia. The agency said, “The correction made in the information given about them has defamed us.” Someone edited the Wikipedia page about the agency and wrote, 'It is a propaganda tool of the current government.' Hearing the case, the court ordered Wikipedia to provide information about the three people who had edited the page. Complaining about non-implementation in this matter, the agency had filed a defamation petition in the High Court on Thursday.

Defamation action can be taken against you: Court

On this issue, Wikipedia's lawyer said that 'We have given some information in this regard as per your order. Give us time to appear in court because Wikipedia is not operated from India.' Justice Naveen Chawla strongly objected to this and said that Wikipedia had given a similar argument earlier, so it is rejected. The bench warned Wikipedia and said that defamation proceedings can be taken against you.

'We will tell the government to block you here'

The High Court said, 'We will take defamation action against you. We will stop your business transactions. We will ask the government to block Wikipedia. You people have made this argument earlier as well. If you don't like India, please don't work in India. Along with this, the court has issued a defamation notice to Wikipedia and the next hearing of the case has been scheduled in October.
