‘If the petition demands the right to access the mosque…’, Owaisi said on the court’s decision in the Sambhal violence case.

Violence broke out in Sambhal on 24 November

On 24 November, violence broke out during a court-ordered survey of the mosque, leaving four dead and several others injured.

The Supreme Court on Friday ordered a trial court in Sambhal to stay proceedings in a case related to the survey of the Shahi Jama Masjid in Chandausi, while directing the Uttar Pradesh government to maintain peace and harmony in the violence-hit city.

Speaking to reporters here on Sunday on the Sambhal incident, Owaisi said, “If we read the petition, we find that it asks for the right to access the mosque.” If this is so then why did the court order the survey, which is wrong. If they want entry then who stops them from going and sitting in the mosque.

Why was the survey ordered – Owaisi

The MP from Hyderabad questioned why the survey was ordered if the character and nature of a religious place cannot be changed under the Places of Worship Act.

Let us tell you that recently a court has also accepted the petition demanding to declare Ajmer Sharif Dargah in Rajasthan as a temple.

Several opposition leaders have expressed serious concern over the controversy over the Ajmer Dargah, which comes soon after similar claims were made about the Sambhal Mosque in Uttar Pradesh.

Asked about the claims on the Dargah in Ajmer, Owaisi said the Dargah has been in existence for 800 years and (Sufi poet) Amir Khusro has also mentioned the Dargah in his book.

PM Modi sent a chadar to the Dargah on Urs – Owaisi

He wanted to know why they now say that it is not a pilgrimage site. If it is so then where will it stop, even the Prime Minister offers a chadar at this Dargah during Urs. What will it say if Modi government sends bedsheets every year?

He said, if people from Buddhist and Jain communities go to the court (in this way), they will also claim (some) places. Therefore, an Act was brought in 1991 that the form of any religious place would not be changed and it would remain the same as it was on 15 August 1947.

Owaisi said that such issues weaken the country and BJP leaders should stop doing so.

He said that there are problems in the country like inflation, unemployment, farmer suicides, China becoming powerful. But they appointed people for this (survey of religious sites). After the verdict in Babri case, I had said earlier that more such incidents may come to light.

Owaisi targeted Mohan Bhagwat’s statement

It is noteworthy that Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat on Sunday expressed concern over the decline in population growth and said that India’s Total Fertility Rate (TFR) i.e. the average number of births in a lifetime should be at least 3. Much higher than the current 2.1.

In response to a question on this, Owaisi said, now RSS people should start getting married. Their (BJP) MPs say that those who have more than two children should not get the benefits of government schemes. They should stick to the same policy.
