Champions Trophy 2025: Even though the Champions Trophy is going to be held next year, there is constant turmoil regarding it. The Board of Control for Cricket in India has made it clear that the Indian team will not tour Pakistan. The Indian government is not in favor of sending the team to Pakistan due to security reasons. However, BCCI is ready to play the tournament on hybrid model.
The board will also suffer a lot of loss
On the other hand, Pakistan Cricket Board has clearly rejected the hybrid model. The PCB chief said that the entire tournament should be held in Pakistan. Amidst all this, if the tournament is postponed or shifted to some other country, then Pakistan Cricket Board may suffer a big loss.
There will be cuts in funding
According to a Cricbuzz report, the Pakistan Cricket Board may face ICC sanctions if the Champions Trophy 2025 is postponed or the tournament is shifted to another country. ICC will cut funding to Pakistan Cricket Board. Being the host, PCB is to get US$65 million from ICC. If the tournament is moved to another country or postponed, Pakistan will lose US$65 million (1820 crore Pakistani rupees) as hosting fees.
Pakistan’s 3 stadiums are ready
Besides, Pakistan has also made special preparations for the Champions Trophy. This tournament is going to be organized in 3 stadiums of Pakistan. In such a situation, Pakistan Cricket Board has spent crores of rupees on these 3 places. PCB has upgraded Karachi, Rawalpindi and Lahore stadiums. According to a report, Pakistan Cricket Board has spent Rs 1300 crore to update 3 stadiums. The board said that these stadiums are now completely new.
Security is a big issue in Pakistan
Even if the amount spent on stadiums is excluded, Pakistan will still be left with Rs 500 crore to host the tournament. A grand tournament could have been organized with this much money. However, due to security reasons, the Indian government is not ready to send any team to Pakistan. The government says that terrorism and talks cannot go together.
