Biden administration's imprint on foreign policy
Kamala Harris does not have much experience in working on foreign policy. Whereas Biden was the chairman or member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee for 12 years before becoming Vice President. Kamala Harris did not have much influence on the foreign policy of the Biden administration, hence it is believed that if Kamala Harris wins, she will carry forward the policies of the Biden administration. Which will benefit only India.
2. Easy for Indians to study and get jobs
Kamala Harris is not as strict on immigration as Trump. She has always been talking about taking everyone along. In such a situation, it is believed that if Harris becomes President, he will take decisions keeping in mind the interests of immigrants. In such a situation, the process of obtaining work visa, green card and citizenship may become easier for Indians under the Harris administration. It can also extend the duration of H-1B visa. This may make it easier for Indians to get visas to work in America.
3. A glimpse of Indian origin in bilateral relations
Kamala Harris may like to call herself an American, but her Indian-origin identity is often mentioned. When Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited America in June 2023, he praised Harris while addressing the US Congress. The PM said that 'There are millions of people in America whose roots are in India, many of them proudly sit in this House as well. One of them is sitting behind me. Meanwhile, there was loud applause in the American Congress.
4. Bilateral trade relations will be strengthened
Kamala Harris's policies on economic and security matters may be similar to those of the Biden administration. The US is one of India's top trading partners. Both countries have had bilateral trade surpluses during the Biden administration. In such a situation, it is believed that if Kamala Harris wins, then the trade relations between the two countries will progress at the same pace. At the same time, Trump has repeatedly threatened to increase tariffs against India in recent times, which has created a perception that Harris becoming president would be better for economic relations than Trump.
5. Strategic partnership against China
When it comes to regional security, whether it is Trump or Kamala Harris, both can take a tough stance against China. The Biden administration (of which Kamala Harris is a part) has adopted policies to strengthen India against China. QUAD is also a group formed to strategically defeat China. In such a situation, if Harris is elected President, then like Biden, she will also support India against China.
