ICMR rejects BHU's study report on side effects of Covaxin

New Delhi, May 20 (Hindustan Reporter) The article published in the Drug Safety Journal and the report of Banaras Hindu University (BHU) about the side effects of Covaxin, the corona infection prevention vaccine, have been rejected by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). ICMR said that it has nothing to do with it and this article is not only wrong but also misleading.

ICMR Director General Dr. Rajeev Bahl has written a letter to the author and BHU professor, calling the article titled “Long-term safety analysis of BBVL52 coronavirus vaccine in adolescents and adults” misleading and seeking answers. Dr. Bahl, in a letter to the paper's authors and the journal's editor on Monday, asked them to immediately remove the article quoting ICMR and publish a clarification. If writers and researchers do not do so, legal action can be taken against them. They also highlighted the poor methodology and design of the study.

Dr. Bahl highlighted that the name of the research was used without any prior approval or information to ICMR, which is inappropriate and unacceptable. ICMR has nothing to do with this poorly designed study. Pointing out the mistakes published in the article, he pointed out in the letter that the method of data collection poses a high risk of bias. Study participants were contacted by telephone one year after vaccination and their responses were recorded without any clinical records or physician test confirmation.
