Dubai, August 22 (HS). Indira Nooyi has parted ways with the International Cricket Council (ICC). The former PepsiCo CEO, who was the world body's first independent female director, is no longer in the prestigious position.
According to Cricbuzz, his tenure ended with the annual conference in Colombo last month.
Indian-American Nooyi participated in the online meeting during the Colombo summit and thanked the ICC for the opportunity.
It is believed that the ICC is now looking for a suitable candidate who can fit the definition of an independent director. There is talk that she will be replaced by an Australian woman. Chennai-born American businesswoman Nooyi joined the ICC in June 2018 initially for a two-year term, as per the ICC constitution, an independent female director is eligible for three terms of two years and in July 2024, she completed six years of eligibility with three terms.
Nooyi was first appointed to the ICC by Shashank Manohar, who is the former president of the ICC and former president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Subsequently, she received extensions twice. Before joining the ICC, Nooyi served as the CEO of PepsiCo from 2006 to 2018.
After the departure of the female director, the powerful ICC board now has 16 members – 12 full members, three Associate Nation directors and the president. However, now the board will have 17 members. This number is important because the directors will elect a new president, for which the ICC issued a notification on Tuesday.
