ICC mourns the death of Frank Duckworth, co-creator of the DLS method

New Delhi, June 26 (HS). The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Tuesday night expressed grief over the demise of Frank Duckworth, co-creator of the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method. This method is used to set targets in limited overs games affected by weather.

Duckworth, 84, who was the ICC's consulting statistician until 2014, died on Friday.

ICC General Manager – Cricket Operations, Wasim Khan, condoled the demise of Duckworth and acknowledged his contribution to the game.

Wasim Khan said, “Frank was a top statistician who was respected by his peers as well as the wider cricket fraternity. The DLS method he co-created has stood the test of time and we continue to use it in international cricket more than two decades after its introduction. Frank’s contribution to the game has been enormous and his demise has come as a huge shock to the cricket world. We offer our condolences to his family and friends.”

Duckworth was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire in 2010.
