I wish I could have got those 2 more balls, Rajasthan bowler Akash Choudhary’s pain in missing out on creating history

News India Live, Digital Desk: In the Ranji Trophy match being played between Rajasthan and Vidarbha, a scene was seen which reminded everyone of Yuvraj Singh’s 6 sixes. Rajasthan’s fast bowler Akash Chaudhary created such a storm with the bat that a new chapter kept getting added in the record books. Akash scored a half-century in just 10 balls, but even after this historic innings, one regret remained in his mind.

This 24 year old player created a sensation by hitting 4 sixes and 2 fours in a single over off Vidarbha spinner Aditya Sarwate. He played an unbeaten inning of 55 runs with the help of 5 sixes and 5 fours in just 13 balls. His innings took Rajasthan to a respectable score in the first innings.

Akash missed creating history

When Akash completed his half-century on the 10th ball, he became the fastest batsman to score a half-century in the history of Ranji Trophy. Earlier this record was in the names of Bandip Singh (15 balls) and Rishabh Pant (24 balls). However, he missed out on equaling the world record for the fastest half-century in List-A cricket by just one ball. This record is in the name of Nepal’s Deependra Singh Airi (9 balls).

The dream of hitting 12 sixes remained in my mind.

After this brilliant innings, Akash Choudhary told that he had intentions of doing something else in his mind. He said, “When I went out to bat, I had only one thing in mind: to hit as many boundaries as possible. I had nothing to lose.”

He further expressed his feelings and said, “I have hit four sixes in an over before also. Today when I hit four sixes, I felt that I have a chance to hit 12 sixes, which I have never done before. My dream was to hit 12 sixes in 12 balls.”

Why couldn’t the dream be fulfilled?

Akash told that he wanted to hit a six on the last two balls also, but the batsman in front, Aniket Choudhary, explained it to him. Akash said, “I asked Aniket, should I go and play big shots? So he said, look, runs are important and taking lead in the first innings is also important. What if you get out? After listening to him, I stopped a bit and decided to play for the team.”

Even though Akash could not fulfill his dream of hitting 12 sixes, his innings has been recorded forever in the history of Ranji Trophy. This shows with what fearless and aggressive thinking the young players of today are playing cricket.
