New Delhi: Not being able to participate in the recent Paris Olympics was so depressing for two-time Asian Games medalist Harmilan Bains that she thought of committing suicide. Now after coming out of that difficult phase, she is trying her hand at modeling.
26-year-old Harmilan was one of the stars of the Indian athletics team at the Asian Games held in China last year. He won a silver medal each in the 800m and 1500m races.
However, she struggled with injuries throughout the season, which dashed her hopes of making it to the Paris Olympics. “I really wanted to go to the Paris Olympics and gave my best, but frequent injuries affected my performance,” Harmilan told PTI on Thursday.
'I was sad'
Harmilan said, “After missing the Paris Olympics, I was depressed, I was completely broken, I couldn't think of anything.” I even had suicidal thoughts and wanted to quit the sport.
Injuries meant she could only compete in two events ahead of the Olympics this year. She failed to clear the Olympic qualifying mark in the 1500m and also failed to make the world rankings in Paris in the 45-competitor category.
She wants to make a career in modelling.
Harmilan said, I am looking for another career option like modelling. I cannot tell you much about it but you will know soon.
