Mumbai: Sanjay Leela Bhansali, producer of the web series 'Heera Mandi', which tells the story of tawaifs of Lahore, has said that I feel a strange attraction towards tawaifs as compared to the common housewives standing in the ration line.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali has been heavily trolled for making the original Heera Mandi of Lahore too pompous, tampering with some historical facts in the series and showing courtesans in palace-like homes and laden with jewellery. Earlier, the story of a courtesan was also told in the film 'Gangu Bai Kathiawadi' made by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. She also played the role of Madhuri Dixit's courtesan in the film 'Devdas' with more fanfare than the original novel.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali, while defending his attraction towards airplanes, had said in an interview that I have always found airplanes strange and mysterious. Call it a tawaif or a beauty queen or a courtesan, all of them are different but the same mysterious aura is wrapped around them all. He has such a powerful aura. They express their happiness and joy through music and dance.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali said that she understands the importance of art, architecture, fashion and is a great artist.
