Delhi liquor policy case: The High Court has issued a notice to the CBI and sought a reply on the bail plea of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. The plea of Kejriwal, who was arrested in the alleged liquor scam case, will now be heard on July 17. A brief hearing was held on Kejriwal's plea on Thursday. During this, Kejriwal, while seeking relief for himself, also said that he is not a terrorist.
He got bail but the High Court stayed it. After this, he was arrested by the CBI. Kejriwal approached the Delhi High Court on Wednesday.
Senior advocates Abhishek Manu Singhvi and Vikram Chaudhary argued on behalf of Kejriwal before a bench of Justice Neena Bansal Krishna. Singhvi said, I got bail from the trial court in the ED case and only after that I was arrested. I am not a declared criminal or a terrorist. I am seeking some interim relief. CBI lawyer Advocate DP Singh opposed the bail plea and said, he has challenged the arrest which is already pending. The first court for bail should be the trial court.
The High Court said, the petitioner has come here directly instead of going to the trial court. This argument will be considered further. The CBI has to give its reply within a week. Kejriwal was arrested by the CBI on June 26 while he was in judicial custody. After which, with the permission of the court, he was kept on three-day remand. He challenged his arrest and remand in the High Court. Later, a bail petition was also filed.
