Awantipora, July 25 (HS). Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Thursday addressed the third convocation of the Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) Awantipora.
Chancellor of the University and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha congratulated and wished the students and appreciated the commendable achievements of IUST in setting a shining example of gender equality.
The Lt Governor said that I am happy to know that out of the 27 students who received gold medals today, 22 are girl students. In our region, girl students are excelling in education at both school and higher education levels. Educating women contributes meaningfully to social progress, economic growth and stability. Their role is vital in making the country a truly developed India by 2047. He also appreciated the role of parents and teachers in laying a solid foundation for the prosperous future of the youth.
Addressing the students, the Lt Governor motivated them to continuously innovate to meet local challenges and work towards a bright and prosperous future for the country. The Lt Governor told the students that desire and determination, the two key factors will guide you to harness opportunities and continuously contribute towards building a developed India. He said that I believe that the main objective of education is to inculcate high values and independent thinking in students to shape the destiny of the nation.
The Lt Governor said that our educational institutions should lay special emphasis on resuming classroom education to unleash the true potential of students. He also stressed on strengthening industry-academia interaction and providing a collaborative space for startups and business ideas to prosper. Startups are powerful tools to bridge the gap between universities and industries. He said that education should be driven by creativity rather than rigid curriculum. The Lt Governor also congratulated the Vice Chancellor, faculty members and students of IUST for making remarkable progress in the field of education, research, innovation and entrepreneurship. The Lt Governor said that IUST has not only excelled in imparting skill training to its students but has also been a pioneer in various educational innovations in Jammu and Kashmir.
He said that as per the National Education Policy 2020, IUST has significantly enhanced its academic offerings, successfully blending humanities with sciences, engaging in multidisciplinary education and introducing new pedagogy methodologies. He said that the introduction of UG programmes in Design Your Own Degree mode, 4-year UG programmes with Multiple Entry Multiple Exit and other innovative programmes in areas such as Robotics & Automation, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Media Studies, Operation Theatre Technology and many other areas are testimony to our commitment to providing flexible and modern educational opportunities that meet the diverse needs of our students. We are witnessing massive changes in the education sector of Jammu and Kashmir and I am confident that IUST will be a beacon of knowledge and innovation in the Union Territory.
Speaking on the occasion, Padma Vibhushan Dr Anil Kakodkar, eminent nuclear scientist and former Chairman of Atomic Energy Commission congratulated the students on starting their new journey. He said that the world outside is full of opportunities as well as challenges. The capabilities that the students will acquire from IUST will enable them to build a successful career ahead and empower them to make meaningful contributions to nation building. IUST Vice Chancellor Professor Shakeel Ahmad Romshoo presented the university report and highlighted the achievements of the university. During the convocation, 27 students were awarded gold medals while 53 students were awarded merit certificates. A total of 1056 students were awarded degrees for UG/PG programmes and 19 students received their PhD degree certificates.
