Husband sentenced to three years and wife to two years in disproportionate assets case

Ranchi, July 31 (HS). The court of CBI Special Judge PK Sharma on Wednesday sentenced the then General Manager of Eastern Coal Field Limited West Bengal Indu Bhushan Singh and his wife Madhuri Singh to three and two years of rigorous imprisonment respectively in the case of acquiring assets disproportionate to their income. Along with this, a fine of two lakh and three lakh rupees has also been imposed on both of them.

This case is 24 years old. The accused was accused of illegally earning more than 30 lakh rupees from his income. Brajesh Kumar Yadav presented the case on behalf of the CBI. The CBI had recorded 29 testimonies in the case while the defense also presented witnesses. During the hearing on the point of punishment, the defense lawyer prayed for leniency in the sentence. The CBI opposed any leniency in the sentence. In this regard, a petition was filed by the CBI in the court on October 17, 2000.
