How to avoid dehydration if you're over 50

Bollywood superstar Shahrukh Khan was cheering for his IPL team Kolkata Knight Riders at the cricket stadium in Ahmedabad on 21 May 2024, at that time the temperature was around 45 degrees Celsius and then Shahrukh suffered from dehydration And he suffered a heat stroke, after which he had to be admitted to the hospital.

Why does dehydration happen?

In summer, when you are exposed to sunlight and high temperatures for a long time, most of the water in the body is lost and then the core temperature of the body starts increasing. This activates the sympathetic nervous system and the body starts releasing stress hormones. Lack of water also reduces the amount of blood. Thickening of blood puts additional pressure on the heart and arteries. In such a situation, our skin radiates heat rapidly. In this condition, sweating is reduced and the body is unable to cool down. This causes heat stroke and dehydration

What to do to avoid dehydration?

In this scorching heat, you should take special care of your health, if your age is above 50 then you need to be even more cautious. Otherwise even a little carelessness can harm you. Let's know what can be done to avoid this.

1. Keep drinking water

Most of our body is made up of water, if there is a shortage of it, dehydration can occur, to avoid this you have to drink sufficient amount of water throughout the day. Apart from this, you can drink coconut water, lemonade and many types of fresh fruit juices.

2. Go out of the house less

When it is hot and sunny outside, try to stay at home and only go out when absolutely necessary. When going out, avoid direct sunlight, wear light, cotton and loose-fitting clothes and use scarves, hats, caps or dupattas. Always carry a water bottle with you.

3. How to use the car

During the day your car becomes a furnace due to the greenhouse effect, so turn on the AC for about 10 minutes before getting inside the car and then drive it. Turn off the AC a few minutes before reaching your destination so that you can acclimatize to the temperature outside.

4. Recognize the symptoms

To avoid dehydration, you should recognize the symptoms associated with it in advance. If your urine is turning dark yellow, mouth and throat are dry, you have headache, dizziness, difficulty in breathing, fever, low blood pressure and increased heart rate, then drink water immediately and contact a doctor if necessary.
