Bharatiya Janata Party has won 132 seats, the credit for which goes to Devendra Fadnavis. He has been the Chief Minister of Maharashtra from 2014 to 2019 and is currently in the race for Chief Minister.
In Maharashtra, veteran BJP leader Devendra Gangadhar Rao Fadnavis contested the Maharashtra Assembly Elections 2024 from Nagpur South-West seat for the sixth time and won. He expressed confidence that the last five times he contested elections, the public supported him and this time too he won with a good majority. He is a leader of Bharatiya Janata Party. He served as the 18th Chief Minister of Maharashtra from 2014 to 2019. At the age of 44, he became the second youngest Chief Minister of the state. He was elected leader of the opposition in the Maharashtra Assembly in 2019.
Devendra Fadnavis was born in Nagpur, Maharashtra.
She was born on 22 July 1970 in Nagpur, Maharashtra to Gangadhar Rao and Sarita Fadnavis. After graduating in law, he moved to Germany in 1998 and did post graduation in Business Management and a Diploma in Project Management from Dahlem School of Education. He married Amrita Fadnavis in 2006 and has a daughter.
Devendra Fadnavis started his political career with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and joined the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) in the 1990s. He won his first municipal election from Ram Nagar ward of Nagpur and was elected as the youngest councilor in 1992 at the age of 22. In the year 1997, he became the youngest mayor of Nagpur Municipal Corporation and the second youngest mayor of India. From 1999 to 2004, he served as a member of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly for three consecutive terms.
Became National Vice President of BJYM in 2001
Fadnavis was appointed as the national vice president of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) in 2001. He served as the general secretary of the Maharashtra unit of the BJP in 2010 and became the president of the state unit in 2013. In 2019, he was re-elected Speaker from Nagpur South West Assembly seat. He resigned as chief minister three days after taking oath after failing to prove majority in the assembly despite forming an alliance with NCP leader Ajit Pawar.
