Tenure
The tenure of the President in America is 4 years. A person can remain President for a maximum of two terms.
In America the President is called POTUS. Which is the short form of President of the United States.
The process of US presidential election is completed in 5 stages.
-Primaries and caucuses
-National Convention
-General Election
-Electoral College
-to take oath
Primaries and caucuses
The first phase of the US election is the selection of delegates. These delegates are elected from political parties through primaries and caucuses. Registered members and the general public vote primarily. Whereas a caucus is an open informal meeting of a party, in which the general public elects representatives. After this, the elected representatives choose one among the leaders claiming the candidacy for the post of President. After this he contests the presidential elections.
National Convention
In this, there is an open forum debate between the presidential candidates elected from the Republican and Democratic parties. About 4 national conferences have been organized. This gives an idea of the mood of the public and the mood of the country as to which party's candidate it wants to elect as the President.
general election
The next process is to select voters. The greater the population of the state, the more voters the general public elects. Winner's rule applies here. It is on 5th November. This is the most important phase of the presidential election. It becomes almost clear who will become the next President from the party which gets more voters.
What is the rule of elector selection?
For example, if a US state has 30 electors… then the party that wins 16 electors is considered to have won the remaining 14 electors. Thus, the party which has won 16 electorates will now be considered to have won all 30 electorates. This is called the winner takes all rule. In this way, 538 voters have been selected from across the country. The party that wins the presidential election needs at least 270 voters to win.
electoral college
Later, these voters cast their votes for the President and Vice President in the month of December. It is called Electoral College. The US Congress counts electoral votes in January. In which the candidate who gets more votes is declared the winner. Later on January 20, the swearing-in ceremony of the new President will be held. In America it is known as Inauguration Day. The President then assumes his official position and responsibilities in the White House.
