History of Belpatra: During the worship of Lord Shiva, many things are offered on the Shiv Linga, but Mahadev loves Belpatra the most. It is also mentioned in the scriptures that offering Bilva Patra on Shivling also pleases Lord Shiva and fulfills the wishes of the devotee. In such a situation, astrologer Radhakant Vats told us how and why Bilva Patra became the favorite of Lord Shiva and how Bilva Patra originated.
How did Bilvapatra originate?
According to the legend, once Mother Parvati was cooking food for all the castes and gods including Lord Shiva in the kitchen located on Mount Kailash.
While cooking, Goddess Parvati sweated a lot. Goddess Parvati wiped the sweat with her fingers and threw the drops down.
Drops of Mother Parvati's sweat fell on the hill of the temple and Bilvapatra was born from those drops. Bilvapatra tree is considered to be full of medicinal properties.
Why is Bilvapatra dear to Lord Shiva?
There are three reasons why Lord Shiva loves Belipatra. One reason is that Belipatra originated from the sweat of Mother Parvati, hence it is dear to him.
The second reason is that when Lord Shiva drank Halahal, the Gods reduced Lord Shiva's jealousy by feeding him Belpatra leaves.
The third reason is that Goddess Lakshmi is believed to reside in the leaves of Belpatra. Lord Shiva considers Goddess Lakshmi as his sister. That is why he likes Belpatra very much.
