Whenever someone builds a new house it needs a connection to utilities like electricity and water. Often people are unsure about what the process will be like to get a new electricity connection for the first time and what steps they will have to take.
Recently consumer rights rules have been amended by the Central Government, which has reduced the waiting time for new connections. According to the new amendment, new electricity connections will now be available in metro cities in three days instead of seven. Similarly, in municipal corporation areas also the waiting time has been reduced from 15 days to 7 days.
In rural areas where one had to wait for a new connection, now the waiting period has been reduced to 15 days.
To apply for an electricity connection, you can visit the website of the electricity distribution company of the state in which you live. Additionally, you can also visit the nearest electricity office.
There are different charges for electricity connection in every state. For example, in Uttar Pradesh, the fee is Rs 10 for BPL (below poverty line) cardholders and Rs 100 for others.
