Mumbai, 19 October (HS). After persistent follow-up by Thane District Housing Federation and Thane City MLA Sanjay Kelkar, non-agriculture tax was completely waived off by the Grand Alliance government. Giving this information today, Housing Federation President Sitaram Rane said that the housing society, which was burdened with Jaziya by way of Non-Agriculture (NA) tax, was freed from this burden of taxation. On this occasion, Thane District Housing Federation on behalf of four and a half crore residents of Maharashtra. Sanjay Kelkar was publicly felicitated. Residents including Housing Federation President Sitaram Rane, BJP Thane City Vice President Mahesh Kadam, Federation Directors Shailja Gust, Vinod Desai, Santosh Salunkhe and lawyer Alkesh Kadam were present at the event organized at the Housing Federation office.
It is said that there are 1 lakh 25 thousand housing societies in Maharashtra, 33 thousand in Thane district and 4.5 thousand in the city. The Non-Agriculture (NA) tax notice has troubled the 4.5 crore residents of the state. Maharashtra State Housing Federation of Thane District Housing Federation, Maharashtra Housing Federation, Pune Housing Federation had also filed a PIL in the court to suspend this NA tax. Along with this, Thane city MLA Sanjay Kelkar from 2018 to 2023 had raised this issue in the Assembly as well as three concerned ministers. The then Revenue Minister Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil had appointed a committee to abolish non-agricultural tax. After this, after asking the government why one house and two taxes, the collection of NA tax was suspended. Therefore, in the recent meeting the coalition government decided to completely waive off non-agricultural taxes.
