The Samyukt Kisan Morcha has accused the central government of “spoiling the atmosphere on farmers' issues” by not fulfilling its promise of ending the strike in 2020-21. Punjab's leading farmers organization BKU (Ugraha) has also joined the movement. They will make all tolls free in Punjab for 2 days from tomorrow. Apart from this, Punjab BJP leaders will surround the house of former CM Captain Amarinder Singh, State President Sunil Jakhar and Kewal Dhillon. BKU (Chadhuni) will take out a tractor rally in the talukas of Haryana.
Standing at the border and protesting
Farmers from Punjab started marching towards the national capital, but security personnel stopped them at the Shambhu and Khanauri borders of Haryana-Punjab. Since then the protesters are standing on both the borders and demonstrating here. To end the farmers' movement, the fourth meeting will be held in Chandigarh tomorrow, Sunday (February 18) between Union Ministers and farmer leaders.
Vegetables may become expensive in Delhi
The farmers' agitation continues for the fifth day. Its effect can be seen on the prices of vegetables available in Delhi. Traders of Ghazipur vegetable market say that the supply has been disrupted due to the protest. A trader said that the price of carrots coming from Punjab has increased by Rs 4 per kg in 15 days. He says that if the protest continues then other vegetables will also become expensive.
MSP law can become
Farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher said that the government had announced minimum support price (MSP) for 23 crops, but only 2 to 3 crops were procured. We want to end corporate loot in crop procurement. He said that if the government wants, it can call a special session of Parliament and make a law. As far as issuing the ordinance is concerned, it is a political decision. If the cabinet wants, it can bring an ordinance regarding legal guarantee for the purchase of crops.
