Dehradun, July 14 (HS). The Horticulture Department has set a target of distributing 9.50 lakh fruit plants across the state on Harela and the Rural Development Department has set a target of distributing 15 lakh fruit plants. The Agriculture Minister has called upon the people of the state to ensure maximum participation in the Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam campaign on this Harela.
Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Ganesh Joshi participated in the free fruit plant distribution program organized by the Horticulture Department on the occasion of “Harela Folk Festival”, a symbol of Uttarakhand’s cultural tradition dedicated to the environment, at Dehradun’s Salawala Complex, and distributed fruit plants of various species.
While extending his greetings and best wishes for Harela festival in advance, the Agriculture Minister said that Harela festival is a symbol of environmental protection. We should see how much the saplings we plant have grown next year and take full care of them.
He said that the Chief Minister of the state Dhami Government has set a target of planting more than 02 crore saplings in the entire state on Harela festival. More than 15 lakh saplings will be planted on Harela this year by the Horticulture and Rural Development Department.
Minister Ganesh Joshi said that on the occasion of Harela Lokparva, about 5.16 lakh fruit saplings of various fruit plants such as mango, litchi, guava, citrus fruits, pomegranate and jackfruit etc. were distributed in the year 2023-24 with the cooperation of the Horticulture Department.
He said that under the free fruit plant distribution scheme run by the state government in the Horticulture Department, 03-05 plants are provided free of cost to the interested beneficiaries and 50-100 plants to government schools / institutions. This year in 2024-25, on the occasion of Harela Lokparva, promoting plantation on a large scale, the target is to distribute about 9.50 lakh different rainy season fruit plants this year, out of which 5.10 lakh fruit plants will be distributed under the free scheme.
Minister Ganesh Joshi said that maximum number of youth of the state will benefit from the free fruit plant distribution program started on the occasion of “Harela Folk Festival”, a symbol of cultural tradition of Uttarakhand dedicated to the environment, and will play an important role in preserving the environment as well as developing the state as a horticultural state.
On this occasion, Minister of State Kailash Pant, State President of BJP Kisan Morcha Jogendra Pundir, National Vice President of Yuva Morcha Neha Joshi, Director General of Gardens Ranveer Singh Chauhan, Horticulture Director Mahendra Pal, Joint Director Dr. Ratan Kumar, Suresh Ram, Mandal President Pradeep Rawat, Jyoti Kotiya, Manjeet Rawat, Poonam Nautiyal and many others were present.
