Horrific train accident in Jamtara, 12 people hit by train, two killed

Jamtara (Jharkhand), 28 February (HIST). Two people died after being hit by a train late Wednesday evening near Kaljhariya in Jamtara-Karmatand of Jamtara district of the state. In this incident, 12 people are reported to have been hit by the train. However, due to darkness the exact estimate of the dead has not been revealed.

Jamtara SP Animesh Naithani said that so far two bodies have been found. Two deceased have been identified, one of whom is said to be Manish Kumar, whose Aadhaar card was found on the railway track. Manish Kumar was a resident of Sasaram Bhangha Katihar Bihar and Sikandar Kumar Dhapri Jhajha was a resident of Jamui Bihar.

SP said that the search is going on along with relief and rescue work by the district administration. Railways have been requested to start a helpline number. The reason will be known after investigation. At the same time, teams of Railway Police and local administration are engaged in relief and rescue work.

It is said that on hearing the news of fire in Ang Express, passengers jumped from the train. Meanwhile, the Jhajha-Asansol train coming from the front passed over the passengers. In this accident, the train ran over many people. At present, relief and rescue work is going on.

Jamtara MLA Irfan Ansari expressed condolences

MLA Irfan Ansari expressed grief over the Jamtara train accident and said that I am getting information that some lives have been lost in this train accident and many people are missing. Certainly this is a sad incident. I am very saddened by this incident and people are in shock there. As soon as I received the information, I have asked the railway administration and the district administration to work on a war footing. Instructions have also been given to investigate how this incident happened and why it happened.

Eastern Railway CPRO Kaushik Mitra said that two persons walking on the track at least 2 km away from train number 12254 passing through Vidyasagar Kasitar were hit by the train. There has been no incident of fire. At present two deaths have been confirmed. The deceased were not passengers but were walking on the track. A three-member JAG committee has been formed to investigate the matter.
