Horrific road accident in Afghanistan, 21 killed, 38 injured in collision between three vehicles

At least 21 people have been killed and 38 others injured in a road accident in southern Afghanistan. A statement from the department in Helmand said the accident occurred Sunday morning in the Gerask district of Helmand province on the main highway between southern Kandahar and western Herat provinces.

Kadartullah, a traffic official in Helmand, said a motorcycle collided with a passenger bus, which then collided with a fuel tank on the opposite side of the road. He said that the accident is being investigated.

Hazatullah Haqqani, spokesman for the Helmand police chief, said 11 of the 38 injured were admitted to hospitals with serious injuries. Traffic accidents are common in Afghanistan, mainly due to poor road conditions and driver negligence.
