Hooghly: BJP protests over Sandeshkhali case

Hooghly, 15 February (Hindustan Reporter). On Thursday, workers of Bharatiya Janata Party and allied branch organizations staged a strong protest in Hooghly district against the atrocities on women in Sandeshkhali and the attack on state BJP President Sukant Majumdar. BJP workers staged a massive protest and submitted a memorandum outside the office of Hooghly District Police (Rural) as well as the office of DCP (Shrirampur) of Chandannagar Police Commissionerate. A BJP delegation led by Rishra Municipality BJP councilor Shashi Singh also submitted a memorandum at Rishra police station.

BJP workers from Hooghly and Arambag organizational districts demonstrated near Hooghly District Rural Police Headquarters. During this, women BJP workers lay down on the road and raised slogans against the government. However, the BJP workers were stopped by the police before they could reach the SP office. It is alleged that during this period the police also used mild force on BJP workers in which many women workers got injured.

However, a five-member BJP delegation led by Hooghly MP Locket Chatterjee submitted a memorandum at the SP headquarters. The MP said that Shahjahan should be given death penalty for his heinous crime.

On the other hand, the workers of Hooghly Shrirampur organizational district, under the leadership of Shashi Singh Jha, Vice President and Councilor of Ward No. 11 of Rishra Municipality, first protested outside Rishra police station and submitted a memorandum regarding the incident of Sandeshkhali in Rishra police station. However, Manoj Singh, councilor of ward number 10 of Rishra Municipality, was not seen during this period. After this, BJP workers reached in front of the office of DCP (Shrirampur) and staged a massive protest there under the leadership of Shrirampur Organizational District President Mohan Adak. During this, a large number of leaders and workers of BJP and branch organizations including Shrirampur organizational district BJP general secretary Shashi Singh Jha, vice president Kishan Sao, district BJP leader Vijay Upadhyay, Rakesh Chaudhary, BJYM leader Hari Mishra were present.
